Appointments & Requesting Material
Doing research? Always request materials in advance!
Many materials are not available for immediate access. We are unable to accommodate item requests from walk-in visitors at this time.
Whether walking in or making an appointment, please request materials in advance. Our materials are stored in many locations and need to be retrieved prior to your visit. We recommend requesting items a minimum of 48 business hours in advance of your visit. Some materials may need to be requested up to 10 days before your visit depending on where the item is stored.
It can take several days to retrieve materials from storage and there is a 10 item request limit per appointment. Plan ahead and be sure to schedule your appointment at least 48 business hours in advance. Think you might need more than 10 items? Contact us.
How to Request Materials
For detailed instructions on how to request material (for in-person consultations as well as remote duplication requests) and schedule your visit, please see How to Request Materials. When making your request in Aeon, you will be required to select an appointment date.

Please be advised that many of our audiovisual materials are not accessible due to fragility and lack of dedicated equipment. Please contact spcoll@uci.edu for more information in advance of your visit.
Research Assistance
Special Collections & Archives staff are available to assist you with reference and basic research inquiries about our collections.
Our materials may be unprocessed, include legacy media formats, or have other handling requirements. We can work with you to refine your research inquiry to ensure that materials are retrieved in time for your on-site visit.
We are more than happy to assist you with research consultations, subject area expertise, locating materials as well as navigating the request management system. We especially recommend that out-of-town researchers or researchers working on complex or time-sensitive projects contact staff at least two weeks ahead of your visit. Please ask us a question!
