Request Duplication

Duplication services offered

If you would like digital copies of material from the collection not already available in our digital collections you are welcome to submit a duplication request through our Special Collections Request System, Aeon.

  • Limited resources are available to provide duplication services. However, we are able to accommodate up to 2 boxes and 4 folders per box of archival material and limited scans from books and serials per quarter. No archival collection can be scanned in full.
  • Oversized materials are subject to review and are approved on case by case basis only.
  • Expected turn-around time for duplication orders is between one to four weeks depending on the number of pages and complexity of the scans. Please plan accordingly.
  • Special format material may still be subject to cost-recovery pricing, however, we are limited in our ability to reformat or provide access to non-digitized audio-visual material. Please contact spcoll@uci.edu for additional information.

We highly encourage our patrons to visit us to consult the materials whenever possible. With limited staff, we can not guarantee the fulfillment of your request within a certain date. Thank you for your patience and understanding

How to request duplication from the Jacques Derrida Papers

The U.C. Regents does not own the copyright(s) to the materials in the Jacques Derrida Papers and there is no personal photography of the papers allowed in the reading room. Therefore all duplication of the papers must be mediated by Special Collections & Archives staff with the permission of the designates to the Jacques Derrida heirs.

Before submitting a duplication request via Aeon, please first request permission from the designates of the Jacques Derrida heirs via the Jacques Derrida Papers Duplication form.

It is strongly encouraged that you read the Guidelines Used By The Designates For Requests before submitting. You will likely be asked to provide a total page count for your request if you are requesting more than a single folder. If you have not visited us before and do not know the breadth of the material, write to spcoll@uci.edu for assistance.

After you have received permission from the designates, please follow the instructions above to request the specific Box, Folder, and page numbers of the material.

How to request permission to publish

While Special Collections and Archives owns the materials in our collections, we usually do not own the copyright to these materials, except where it has been explicitly transferred to the University of California. As a result, patrons are solely responsible for determining the copyright status of materials and obtaining permission to use material from the copyright holder (owner of the intellectual property as defined by U.S. copyright law).

Depending on your unique circumstance and publishing needs, we strongly recommend that you review the Research Guide on Copyright and Fair use: How to use copyrighted material. UCI Special Collections & Archives staff can only provide limited help where copyright is not known, and we are unable to grant or deny permission to publish or agree to terms put fourth by publishers except where the UC Regents are the sole copyright holders.

For more information consult our Copyright & Permission page or contact us at spcoll@uci.edu for assistance.
