Literary Authors: Collection Strengths

The UCI Writing Program

We actively collect books published by faculty and graduates of UCI's M.F.A. programs in writing (fiction and poetry).  UCI's program has become one of the most highly rated in the nation.  Former faculty whose novels are in the collection include Donald Heiney, Oakley Hall, Thomas Keneally, and Geoffrey Wolff.   Distinguished M.F.A. graduates include Pulitzer Prize winners Richard Ford and Michael Chabon, as well as authors Aimee Bender, Alice Sebold, Kem Nunn and many others.

• Kenneth Millar
  Millar wrote a highly regarded body of detective fiction, many of his novels featuring the detective Lew Archer, under the pseudonym of Ross MacDonald.  The collection holds more than 140 editions and printings of his work in English, as well as countless editions in translation to dozens of other languages.  New editions, particularly translations, are still being published.  See the next section for a description of Millar's archive.

• Charles Bukowski Manuscript
  An untitled, handwritten eight-page prose piece in the form of a monologue about life, the arts, friends, and many other matters, written with the honesty and humor characteristic of his work.

• Hans Waldmüller Collection on Thomas Mann
  Principally a collection of periodical issues containing articles by Mann that were collected by scholar Hans Waldmüller. This collection has not yet been organized; please contact us for more information
• Kenneth Millar papers
  A comprehensive collection of the author's personal and professional papers, including literary manuscripts, writing notebooks, correspondence, and photographs.
• Margaret Millar papers
  An extensive collection of her literary manuscripts and typescripts, research notes, and galley proofs, including an unpublished novels.
• Kathleen Raine Papers
  Journals, correspondence, photographs, draft versions of poems, critical work, and her published autobiographical trilogy, with a focus on her career as a poet and literary critic.
• Alfonso Sastre Papers
  Manuscripts of forty early dramatic works of the renowned Spanish playwright, as well as manuscripts of unpublished plays, poetry, and other writings.
